Taylor and I feel like a hotel. The Chameleon Hotel, I'll name it. We have had a number of guests come visit us at the Chameleon. Its a tight fit, but its been fun!!
Almost 2 weeks ago (time flies - geeze) my family came to visit. We did almost everything under the sun. We went to Bar Americain for my mom's birthday. Love love love that place! Bobby Flay's restaurant. Then Top of the Rock then Serendipity. The list goes on: Battery Park, pizza and ice cream in Brooklyn, Brooklyn Bridge, Times Square, 9/11 memorial museum, Ground Zero, Wall Street, bronze bull, Central Park, church, Max Brenner, Union Square, and I'll stop there cause I'm getting tired again just thinking about it. It was great to have my parents and sister visit (Jake you were missed, hopefully Oklahoma was fun for you).
My uncle came to visit. We went to the Metropolitan Museum - which was fantastic! And we also went to a place called Sushi Samba - sushi with a Brazilian twist. Absolutely fun and fabulous. It was great to see my uncle. I swear it had been almost 10 years since I had seen him.
Taylor had a couple friends in town and has invited more people to come experience the city with her this weekend. I get to go visit my love in Oklahoma (don't get confused - not my brother, while he is out there too and I'll get to see him, I'm talking about my boyfriend). I haven't seen him in 2 months so I'm excited :)
Taylor and I aka the Twinkies have been having anxiety trying to plan our lives in a matter of weeks. We realized that we are officially done with our internship next week!!!!!!! There are so many different choices we could make, so which is the right one we ask? I don't want to say too much, but we might have a freaking rad gig here in couple weeks on the other side of the country. We will keep you posted.
Before you go, the title of this blog post was inspired by a sign hanging on the graphic designer's cubical. She is very proud of it.

karma karma karma karma karma chameleon
i have returned from the platt party. rather than rant and rave about the city, first, i will rage about tennessee. i have my priorities.
the bride was beautiful. unadulterated happiness looks great on her. as well as a tan and a gorgeous gown. she also dedicated a bieber song at her reception for the girls, where we danced reminiscent of a three am bedroom dance party.
the groom did not disappoint--as a great observer [irony for those who know me]--he studied her face like mcdreamy does meredith, and as if she was the only person in the room.
turns out an overwhelming amount of donohoo women is without question a good time. each a piece of work, but nonetheless the most amazing babes i know--with children who might have suffocated from my kisses. and the men who stick around despite the sass, are among the funniest alive. i also had a simple reminder that my girlfriends are the reason i breathe. i feel entitled to dramatics, it really emphasizes my point here.
as previously mentioned, im back to the concrete cage. welcomed back by taxi drivers that make me car sick, accompanied with accents that make me ask "pardon?" three times [which ive deemed the maximum amount, anything that requires a fourth inquiry simply gets a head nod.] honestly, i dont need them talking to me unless its the cash cab.
meaghan barbin made a debut this week. yes, please! what a tease to spend such brief time together. she took me to a geek convention shindig last night. we danced despite the dj's lack of talent. got hit on by a man triple our age--which made us stop dancing. the past weekend and some has reassured me that fun flocks with the people you love. since when am i sentimental? must be because i caught the bouquet and need an eligible bachelor.
barbin also introduced me to a new addiction comparable to crack cocaine. the cupcake shop: crumbs--where the phrase "thats not just any cupcake" literally left my lips. im smitten. and would like to recommend the peanut butter cup cupcake to any one who wants to understand the definition of divine.

Good Fortune, Good Luck
I woke up this morning to find a note left by Tay with sweet-nothings written on it. No, but really Taylor did write a note and she really did abandon me this weekend for a pink and green dress and a bouquet-catching attitude. It will be a long 56 hours (yes, I'm counting), but I'll survive. Taylor will come home to find me in a Dr. Pepper coma, tucked in my bed, watching movies (thank you Rook).
On a happier note, Taylor and I finally went out for desert at the famous Serendipity 3. It exceeded our expectations. Words cannot describe their frrrozen hot chocolate. Mmmmmm (but maybe one letter repeated over and over again can). Although pricey, their food was delightful as well.
We've done a whole bunch of nothing this week at work (typical). We've done a little bit of work for Frontier Communications and LG (not including my LG all-nighter, which was for nothing, of course). All was well after the pitch to Frontier last week until the CEO of Frontier killed the spokes-character. Fred is dead. R.I.P. our little red friend. He was the glue that held everything together, but luckily a decent solution was found within a few days.
Taylor and I have no horrible luck with restaurants here. We haven't eaten at one place that we would ever recommend or eat at again until we ate at PRET. Its right next door to Y&R so we can exert as little energy as possible (sitting all day doing nothing is exhausting). PRET is a sandwich, salad, soup place, but its all made fresh fresh fresh. Absolutely wonderful.

cute over comfort, always.
heels in the city are irrational. but we do it anyway. it’s an art and a disaster. we do it because it completes the outfit. and for the off chance that some sugar daddy wants to whisk us away. don’t you dare judge us. this is new york. and were bottom-of-the-barrel-interns.
for reasons unjustified, i found myself in times square on numerous occasions within the past week (trust me, it's no social scene.) perhaps i would be more inspired by the advertising mecca and shimmering lights—if i wasn’t dry heaving from the smell of urine. but we did get to see those lovely faces from the i-house. brief as it was.
dolled and dazzling, in said mentioned heels above, we searched on saturday for the perfect night. not a five star evening, however, we did enjoy quality time at a mediocre restaurant with some seriously funny men. and a sweet spirit chad.
danielle pulled her first all-nighter sunday for the good cause of worky. well done boo, im proud of you. i will say, that if we are expected to pull all nighters reminiscent of college (state farm anyone?), i will also deem it necessary to extend my college life style. booze, boys, and booze. kidding. i only participate in two of the three (false again.)
id like to just add, if i may (which i can cause you cant stop me), that i am stoked to attend the platt wedding this weekend in nashville. well done hali, theres no greater art than manipulating a man into the donohoo clan. god bless.

starbucks is the lifeline of this city
i am a fan of most music. let it be known i do not like techno. my point being--dolly parton speaks to the soul in 9 to 5. i feel like if my life were a soundtrack, dolly's twang would be serenading me on the subway while i am off to the grind.
as it turns out, i am still not a morning person. at least in this sea of change i have some consistency.
the frontier campaign is smooth sailing. this week has been fine tuning and polishing. where we watch the masters and hope they throw scrapes our way.
danielle has been ill this week. which translates into a saga i would like to title taylor-bites-the-apple. i walk determined, know where i am going, and take lunch breaks by myself. which i find a small significant sign of adulthood. minus the whole financially dependent ordeal ;)
perks:
-admiring the architecture
-selecting random restaurants
-the city hum of success
-harassing employees concerning the industry and portfolio work
-catching up with people who are far more interested in the life i live now-v-the previous twenty one years.
things that irritate me:
-the laundromat. which used to be open 24-7, but apparently people don't like the homeless man who lived there.
-the spastic weather. cold is not an option new york. pull it together, it is may.
-how going anywhere requires strategic planning and seemingly ruins spontaneity.
can we go an entire post without mentioning mcdonald's? no. because i am using their tagline to sum up the city: im lovin it.
wish the midge was feeling better, because another constant in my life is living for the weekend and here it commeeesss! play time. cheers.

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun
The highlight of my week may have been the trip to Tiffany's that I took with Samantha Wride. I rocked a half-million dollar 4-kart diamond ring. The guy at Tiffany's said one day you will have this ring. I don't think there is a "one day" for this ring for me.
Almost as cool as the Tiffany's ring was getting my groceries delivered yesterday. I just ordered everything online then a man showed up at the door with my food and Dr. Pepper :) No more of this walking blocks to the grocery store, putting things in my shopping cart, and carrying it all back. I'm all about no hassle groceries now. I think this whole New York thing could work out after all.
Taylor and I finally got a real project on Wednesday. Our client is Frontier - "the conversation company". They are taking over some cable, Internet, and telephone accounts from Verizon. Maybe I've said too much already. Anyways, Taylor and I came up with some ideas that the executive creative director loved. This meant we got to work this weekend mocking-up the ideas for tomorrow's pitch to Frontier. We're crossing our fingers that they dig our work and we get the big jobs in the big city.
After our 50 hour week working, Taylor and I decided to relax a bit by dancing the night away. We got all dolled up and ventured down to SoHo. We met up with a couple other friends from BYU. We went to a few different clubs and took a couple rides in a Taxi across town. Taylor and I probably ruined our feet by wearing heels and walking way too many blocks. Beauty is pain, right?

if need be, i can travel by my lonesome.
i dont think i could put it more poetic than LMFAO, "shots shots shots shots shots shots, everybody!" (except the BYU interns who dont drink.) i had to tell danielle the punch on the table of our work cinco de mayo fiesta was indeed sangria. had i thought it through—perhaps i would have allowed her to dabble in sin for my own amusement.
and because i cannot resist an opportunity to play barbie—i played dress up wednesday evening for a broadway experience. turns out Wicked is indeed wicked. singing was superb. dancing was dazzling. and the costumes … make me want to do away with words and spend my life in sequins and fabulous fabric, its a shame i dont have talent.
yesterday was the best day on record at the grind. we were briefed on a new client, frontier (a communications company). the cons of being a creative: creativity is conditional, ideas are sporadic, and late nights are .. nightly. the pros: danielle and i set out to brainstorm, left our supervisors our number in case they needed contact, and spent the entire afternoon sitting outside the nyc public library people watching for inspiration.
we also ventured to bryant park for lunch. l-o-v-e it (thank you for letting me be ashlee simpson there). its a massive social scene for madison ave, everyone grabs lunch and a café table. that is, if you dont lose your appetite from the shirtless old man who deems it appropriate to bask in the sun amidst the young fly and flashy.

Picture Perfect
Today's beautiful weather and success at the J. Crew sample sale definitely makes up for yesterday's 12 hour work day.
Okay, so I've pulled a 12 hour work day plenty of times. Not a big deal. Taylor and I are familiar with all-nighters too. But nothing was like yesterday.
For 12 hours we had six people looking through thousands and thousands of stock photos. We were looking for a hot mom, age 39 and a woman in a business suit. You think those photos would be all over the place, but the "perfect' shot was not. When we finally settled for an image, we got the news we couldn't buy it. Long story short, we got the image and the ads have been shipped of to Spain for approval. I'm crossing my fingers they like it.
So today has been a lot of what we did last week...sitting around, drinking a Coke, and Facebooking.
As a side note, Taylor is disappointed that Kevin Kelly did not add her as a friend on Facebook. Kevin, if you're reading this, Taylor is your number one fan.
She's going to kill me for writing that :) You know I love you Tay Tay.

manic monday
candid conversation---
taylor: good idea danielle, that's so creative.
danielle: i know. that's why i'm sitting over here.
we're cut from the same egotistical cloth. how endearing.
today it's raining. you can only imagine the thick muggy weather sandwiched between layers of concrete. i looked like a wet rat by the time i got to work. so classy.
here's a first: the doormen saw me and danielle through the rotating doors, caught an elevator for us and pushed the button for 22! has a ring of permanence, doesn't it?! how did he know? i'm assuming magic.
today we took a field trip to watch a voice over production for a :15 TV Spot. the voice over was a kind gentleman in his thirties dressed as if in his sixties; rough looking greaser with the voice of an angel. the spot is for LG--and was produced in south africa. if the no early morning, free range lunch break, and "i-don't-care-what-you-do-as-long-as-you-get-it-done" attitude isn't enough to seal my choice in career, the potential traveling is.
i don't think this blog can go much further without mention of the salivating shopping here. i would assume this is paradise. please don't ruin the moment with reference to my bank account--i am well aware of my financial circumstance. (i am indeed at a non-paid internship.) if you are that concerned about it, send cash.
i would be interested in presenting a startling statistic while i am here. i would venture to say a restroom in a homeless shelter may be cleaner than those metal diseases i use to hold steady in the subway. research pending.

But Wait, There's More...Walking
Might I also add that Big N' Tasty's DON'T EXIST at McDonald's here in New York!! What the heck is up with that!? Disappointing to say the least. But on a happier note. We have managed to hunt down Dr. Pepper in the city. It didn't exist in Chicago.
Yesterday, Taylor, Jayson, and I made the trek down to Battery Park and Ground Zero. Taylor saw the Statue of Liberty for the first time from a far. I had a heart attack almost having a personal encounter with a couple boa constrictors in Battery Park. I thought I was in the clear then I had second heart attack running into some more creepy snakes. I vow never to go to Battery Park again...maybe. For those that know me, its my BIGGEST fear ever! I'm getting anxiety just writing about it.
Moving on. We walked over to Ground Zero to see the progress they are making on the Freedom Tower. They are giving that whole area a face lift - its looking great. When I was there eight months ago there was still a big hole in the ground, but its all filled in now.
We took a break from walking and sat in chairs that over-looked the Hudson. It was absolutely a beautiful day. Probably high 80s and blue skies. It was a nice break from work.
On our way home, Taylor got eye balled up and down by some chick.
We wanted to dine on a rooftop, but after looking for hours on the Internet where to go we gave up and just settled for some Chinese food.
I was worn out from all the walking (we walk miles and miles every day) so I went home, but Taylor and Jayson went to Times Square. Not sure if you heard, but there was a bomb threat that shut down Times Square last night. No one was hurt and Taylor made it back safely :)
One last thing, Taylor and I are proud to say we attended all three hours of church today. If you were just walking down the street you probably wouldn't even notice the church building - its like the Leaky Cauldron in Harry Potter. Its just in a regular New York building, but looks like a Mormon church inside. We were disappointed that we only have 40 people, maybe 50, in our ward. I'm use to 300 people!
After church we went into a coma for four hours then took a walk over to Central Park. Its been a lovely Sunday.

working hard, hardly working.
i found myself at the apollo theater wednesday night, which happens to be amateur night. the first portion of the show is considered "rising stars." in which children and young adults perform: being a showcase of sub-par talent. part of me wants to say shame on the apollo for encouraging mediocrity--these same kids will be featured on the first week of american idol being publicly humiliated for entertainment. however, i will say the apollo was a good time and highly recommended, any opportunity to boo people off stage is all giggles and grins.
the internship makes me feel like a real person. waltzing through rotating doors, passing doormen, sitting on my throne in my own personal cubicle (i know a cubicle is hardly brag worthy--let me live.) our first client was Tully's coffee. i spent half the day coming up with the perfect line to put on a promotional t-shirt for an upcoming Tully event. as it so happens, yours truly got selected to be executed. i might have a future after all.
remember my anxiety from the subway? good, i like to believe you read and retain what i write. today was my first day traveling alone. not intentional. ms. morgan hustled on the subway--being that tiny has its perks--with me far behind. we reunited at grand central, i gotta say i was pumped to see my midget waiting for me.
my last observation: the mcdonalds here does not have a dollar menu. what is that about? we all know i live off of convenience and fast food. surely this state doesn't think it'll change my life.

Uptown or Downtown?
Taylor may think I'm her Google Map, but I proved otherwise yesterday. Maybe it was the anxiety about our first day of work or the thousands of people pushing and shoving, but we managed to jump on the uptown subway instead of downtown. We were in Harlem before we knew it, but we quickly jumped on the right train. I thought we were in the clear with 13 minutes to spare to walk two blocks to work from Grand Central Station, but yet again we started heading North when we needed to be going South. We took a 10 block detour, but luckily managed to get to work two minutes early.
We did much better today. No detours for us. It was a straight shot to work.
Speaking of work, we did NOTHING yesterday! Okay so maybe that's over-exaggerating, but our first day on the job consisted of Faccebook, blogging, starring at Taylor's shoes (thanks Mr. Sullivan), and some McDonald's. I'm realizing that being a Creative rocks. We get to sit around all day and come up with ideas. Our creativity process could include, but is not limited to, playing putt-putt in the hallway, watching YouTube, escaping our cubical to see a movie, or starring out the window.
New York is truly the "Concrete Jungle". You feel lost and intimidated being at the street level with skyscrapers all around. They start to look the same. If you're lucky you can see a slice of blue above you. But Taylor and I lucked out getting a window desk on the 22nd floor.
I would like to point out the homeless man who mooned us this morning. Its not what you think. Mooney, I'll call him, was wearing pants, but they had no butt! And they weren't chaps, he had just worn out the butt of his jeans until nothing was left.
It is a different world out here. But we love it!

what's up jay z.
i don't do disclaimers. but i will, however, provide a blueprint of the blog. danielle and i are interning at young & rubicam:brandbuzz NYC for the next two months. remember that time i worked on madison avenue? oh yeah, that's today. shes a guru with graphic design and i, a measly wordsmith. but together a pair of double d's (danielle and donohoo.) although in the thick of the texting trend, we'd rather blog about the ordeal versus plenty of personal texts or calls. plus i'm never one to pass an opportunity to talk about myself with an audience.
i think i can distill the city into one phrase: cut throat. so naturally i'm a fan.
the grocery store is even intense. people push their carts like they're freaking taxi's. did you know they deliver?
our place is darling. it's all kinds of cute. we have a fish tank--in which a sea spider has already died in our custody. hopefully nemo stands a chance.
im convinced i will get arthritis. i have a constant white knuckle grip on my purse.
the subway intimidates me. i don't get it. if it weren't for danielle--my personal google earth--i would be in a permanent state of anxiety. not to mention yesterday's announcement "a crowded subway is no excuse for sexual harassment."
oh to be young wild and free in the city. (you can call me dr. suess.)
